Wednesday, October 20, 2010 was Wear Purple Day.
Students, teachers, businessmen and women, parents, friends and the Spirit World united in support of six boys who had recently committed suicide as a result of being tormented by their peers for being gay. Cheer for a Cause changed their ribbon color to purple and plans a future cause in support of an anti-bullying campaign.
Facebook pages and causes came together in support of zero tolerance for bullying. Stop the Bullying in Schools has over 750,000 members! And a facebook campaign created by the cheerleading and dance community called Bullying is Nothing to Cheer About was launched and already has over 3000 members! Their mission is to engage the cheer and dance community in ending bullying and its consequences. Bravo!
Celebrities like Chris Colfer of Glee and Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter fame spoke out to raise awareness of The Trevor Project. A place for questions, answers and support for GLBT and questioning youth.
